Diamond or Pumice

Are you the Diamond or the Pumice?

Diamond or Pumice

“Dia ga bisa bedain berlian dan batu apung” ~ AC
“He cannot distinguished between diamond and pumice” ~ AC

I was laughing so hard when I read that sentence during one conversation with my bestfriend :)

When you have to choose between Diamond and Pumice, off course, it’s a 100% YES to choose Diamond over Pumice!

However, because of another conversation with my other bestfriend, I was thinking about this things I wrote here….

He said, “Which one are you? Are you the diamond or the pumice? I think you are the pumice! You see, the pumice is more useful. You can see them anywhere across the ocean of life.”
He did try to comfort me thus I would not be discourage if I am not the diamond.
But then, I said to him, “Pumice can be useful, can be seen anywhere. Yes, it’s true, for some people they kept their diamond in their safety box. Nevertheless I still want to be the diamond!”

Frankly speaking, I am not that kind of girl that fancy jewellery like diamonds! I love to see the diamond, yes, but it’s kind of secondary thing to have :)

Then, if am not a fan of diamond, why would I choose to be the diamond instead of pumice?

I said, “Diamond, it’s proven that it stand strong through the furnace”

But then, all the conversation above were not based on any fact. It’s just our thinking in a split moment.
However it make me curious. What is pumice (batu apung)? Is it really useful? Is it well known? What are they?

So, let’s take a look of what is pumice and diamond!

What is Pumice?

Pumice is a light-colored, extremely porous igneous rock that forms during explosive volcanic eruptions. It is used as aggregate in lightweight concrete, as landscaping aggregate, and as an abrasive in a variety of industrial and consumer products. Many specimens have a high enough porosity that they can float on water until they slowly become waterlogged.

Uses of Pumice

If you read the source, you will know that indeed Pumice are very useful. You can use it for concrete in construction, decorative ground cover in landscaping and planters, drainage rock and soil conditioner in plantings. And it’s also used as an abrasive in pencil erasers and skin exfoliating product.

What is Diamond?

A diamond (from the ancient Greek ἀδάμας – adámas, meaning “unbreakable,” “proper,” or “unalterable”) is one of the best-known and most sought-after gemstones. Diamonds have been known to mankind and used as decorative items since ancient times; some of the earliest references can be traced to India.

Most natural diamonds are formed at high temperature and pressure at depths of 140 to 190 kilometers (87 to 118 mi) in the Earth’s mantle. Carbon-containing minerals provide the carbon source, and the growth occurs over periods from 1 billion to 3.3 billion years (25% to 75% of the age of the Earth). Diamonds are brought close to the Earth’s surface through deep volcanic eruptions by a magma, which cools into igneous rocks known as kimberlites and lamproites. Diamonds can also be produced synthetically in a high-pressure high-temperature process which approximately simulates the conditions in the Earth’s mantle.

I love the meaning of diamond. “UNBREAKABLE” “PROPER” “UNALTERABLE”
And if you are talking about the natural diamonds, they are formed at high temperature and pressure at depth ground below the earth.

I believe that’s not a fancy place at all! It might be dark. Very dark. With high temperature and pressure some more.

Many of us, want to be the diamond instead of pumice!
But how many of us want to be processed, to be formed at high temperature and pressure in the darkness. Not for a short period. But it will take times!

I don’t know about you, but i feel, because most people don’t want to go through that period of being formed at high temperature and pressure in the darkness, they voluntarily choose to be a pumice!
Comforting themselves that, “hey, i am useful”. But then, remember, the pumice can float for long periods of time – sometimes years – before it finally becomes waterlogged and sinks.

Each of us, need to be formed thus we can be that diamond that is Unbreakable in our faith! Proper in our attitude! Unalterable in truth!
